Teams must be given problems to solve, not solutions to build. The right way is to understand and express the problem that stakeholders or clients are trying to solve. 

• What are people doing today?

• What are they trying to do that’s difficult?

• What are they doing today that’s not productive for them or for us?

• What new, valuable behaviors can we unlock?

Users rarely need “features,” what they need is to attain some kind of goal. (It’s not always a concrete goal: sometimes it’s an emotional goal, an unarticulated desire, etc.) It’s our job to decide how best to get them to their goals.

Our primary concern is not to create value but to create learning. One of the key things you’re trying to learn is what the market finds valuable.
